OUR FLAG POLE PROJECT

These are the flags we fly today. Our son has changed branches of the service and is
now in the Navy learning how to fly. He hopes to become a fighter pilot. Our
daughter and son inlaw are still in the Air Force and doing well.
This project is dedicated to our children who are serving in the U.S. Air Force and the
U.S. Navy Reserves.

Shortly before we started applying the second coat of primer on Sunday the bombing
commenced in Afghanistan. Frank was much on our minds as he was refueling planes as
part of an air bridge. This is such a small thing that we have done but we hope it
demonstrates to our children how proud we are of them.

On Saturday afternoon October 12, 2001 we put some patriotic music in the cd and raised
the flag pole. It took two attempts, a lot of straining muscles, and a rope attached
to the car to push and pull the pole upright. Once the pole was up it was secured by
strapping and boards with clamps. Frank drilled the holes in the flag pole so the
pins could be run through all 3 poles and the pole was secured. Christie, our
daughter and a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, and Les Strickland a friend and retired
Marine raised the American Flag. The Texas flag and the U.S. Air Force flag went up
next. At that time we all thought it was appropriate to pledge allegiance to our
Flag so we did. There are a few things that remain to be done but the project is
basically complete.
These pictures are of the flag pole at night. It was
such a dramatic sight that we found ourselves several times during the night just staring
at it.
